Day 1: Explore Lake Bohinj

Reach Lake Bohinj by car or fly into Ljubljana airport. We’ll arrange your rental car or the necessary private transfers, if you prefer not to drive at all.
You’ll meet your travel designer in person to discuss the trip itinerary, share local tips and instructions for a smoother experience.
Take the rest of the day off for a refreshing swim in the largest natural lake in Slovenia, located in a quiet corner of a glacial valley within the National Park of Triglav. Here you can relax on the beach, while the kids play. You can also opt for exploring the nearby sights on foot too.

Day 2: Bike & SUP in Bohinj Valley

Upon morning bike delivery to your hotel, you’ll ride mostly along paths dedicated to biking. You’ll ride through the flowering fields of a tiny village Ribcev Laz, optionally add a hike to a fabulous lookout with an aerial view of the Bohinj Lake and walk along a deeply cut Mostnica river gorge. The cycling route takes you by the coastline of the lake to the most spectacular spot, where you’ll experience stand-up-paddling. Explore the crystal clear tributaries, find your secret beach in the stunning alpine paradise.
The SUP boards and bicycles are at your disposal the whole day!

Day 3: Hiking in Triglav National Park

A short drive along a scenic mountain road will take you to the start of a 10 km circular hiking adventure across alpine pastures in the Triglav National Park. Try home-made cheese, traditional sour milk, or fresh milk on one of the high mountain dairy farms on a charming green clearing in the middle of the woods amidst the mountain arena. With a little luck, you can even learn how to milk one of the mooing cows.
Everyone will enjoy this summer hike in the Alps every step of the way, because of beautiful meadows covered with colorful wildflowers, a scent of hay filling the air, and the sound of cowbells too.

Day 4: Explore the Julian Alps

You’ll relocate with a 2-hour drive from Lake Bohinj, through the heart of the Julian Alps to Bovec in Soca valley, where you’ll stay for the next four nights. Making stops along the way for walks and hikes will add authentic nature and charming historic site discoveries to your family bucket list.
You’ll explore Slovenia’s most famous lake, the Bled Lake, as well as hike to its most fabulous lookout spot and taste the traditional Bled cream cake. You’ll get freshened up by the spray of the thundering Pericnik waterfall in Vrata valley, enjoy views of the magnificent Julian Alps around Vrsic – Slovenia’s highest mountain pass. Wrap up the day by dunking into the ice-cold pools of the aquamarine Soca river.

Day 5: Fun Rafting on Soca River

Half-day family rafting on the emerald Soca River is the best value adventure in Slovenia, combining gentle and exciting activity, which your kids will never forget.
Your rafting guide will take you from your hotel to the start of the rafting trip and after back.
About an 8 km long route brings a fun rafting experience in bouncy rapids, attractive boulder gardens and deep emerald lagoons squeezed between the scenic mountain ridges of the Julian Alps.
Apart from the ability to swim, there is no need to be athletic or to have previous experience with rafting to enjoy rafting on Soca.
Afterward you’ll be able to choose from a variety of afternoon things to see and do, based on your needs and wants, thus can be as relaxed or as active as you please.

Day 6: Experience Nature & History

Meet our lovely local historian for a walk back in the time of the fiercest WWI battles in the Soca valley. The retired history teacher turns historic events into an interactive experience that the kids are excited to participate in and even extend.
Upon an hour with Vlado, you’ll walk along the flower fields and forests of Bovec with Natasa. Our sweet wildflower specialist and pharmacist, will show you different herbs, learn about their health benefits, pick edible plants to enjoy along with an unforgettable picnic on a secluded spot by the Soca river.

Enjoy the afternoon by the river, swim in the cold river pools, and switch-off from your every day, or opt for a mountain biking experience.

Day 7: Zip Line in Soca Valley

Family zipline adventure in Soca valley takes you to the biggest zipline park in Europe. Equipped with safety gear you’ll travel along 10 wires about 100 m above the beautifully carved Ucja river canyon in Natura 2000 park. Apart from excitement and fun, the trip brings panoramic views towards the waterfalls of Globoski Potok stream, Soca river valley, and the highest mountain in Slovenia – Mount Triglav.
Take the afternoon for a slow panoramic gondola ride to Mount Kanin, visit the historic town of Kobarid, explore around the Virje waterfall or take the most scenic drive to the highest mountain road in Slovenia – the Mangart saddle road.

Miha Gantar, Slotrips' founder, trip designer & guide

I was born in Slovenia’s lovely capital city of Ljubljana but had set the avid hiker and biker in me aside for a while to study civil engineering in Germany. It was there where I met my wife, my cute Spanish girl. Together we traveled the world and finally settled in my homeland, Slovenia in 2007. Since then I have been (re)discovering the hiking trails, biking backroads, hidden natural treasures, and best dining spots all over the country. I am in love with Slovenia’s landscape, diversity, and cultural variety and will proudly show you my “backyard”.

Meet the team

“We had an excellent experience with SLOTRIPS for our self-guided tour in Slovenia.

Miha was really accommodating from the beginning in trying to set up a self-guided tour for us with our two 9 year old children. We wanted to see Slovenia and also wanted some adventure along the way. The trip started with some hut hiking in Triglov National Park and then made our way down to Piran with adventures in the Soca River along the way. We met with Miha in the beginning of our trip and everything he had for us was well planned and organized. Along the trip we were able to easily contact him if there were any problems or if wanted some advice along the way. Thanks Miha and SLOTRIPS for a great adventure in Slovenia! We hope to come back someday!”
