Activity Level & Trail Info

Difficulty level: Easy

Daily activities: 3–5 hours
Walking: 6–11 km (3–7 mi) / 100-400 m (300-1300 ft)
E-Biking: 25 km (15 mi)/300 m (1000 ft)

Walking terrain: The trails on this trip require little physical exertion. Most are wide enough and have surfaces of gravel, grass, forest soil, and asphalt. They are generally comfortable to walk on, but you may encounter rocky, root-covered, or slippery sections, especially in wet conditions. The routes primarily wind through valleys, meadows, forests, and small villages.

Biking terrain: A scenic, well-maintained, mostly traffic-free and relatively easy bike route runs mainly on paved cycle paths (once railway) with very few gravel sections. Except for the last ascent, there is a minimum elevation gain.

Weather

Varied weather conditions depend on altitude and season. From June to September we usually expect pleasant temperatures between 20–30°C in valleys, while higher elevations remain cooler, around 10–20°C. In early May and from late September onwards expect milder but pleasant temperatures. Till May, there can still be some snow around Vršič Pass (the highest point of the trip). While rare, snowfall can occasionally occur in unexpected months such as late September October, and November. In that case, we will slightly adapt certain hikes.

Afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August, so carrying rain gear is essential.

Always check the latest weather forecast before setting out, as the weather can change rapidly in the Alpine region. Below is the weather forecast for Bohinj Valley (Bohinjska Češnjica) and Kranjska Gora (Rateče).
