Activity Level & Trail Info

Difficulty level: Moderate

Daily hikes: 4–6 hours / 12–16 km (8–10 mi)/ 300-900 m (1000-3000 ft).

Hiking terrain: Expect occasional narrow and uneven trails on the mountain foothills, forested slopes, and moderate alpine paths. Trails feature narrow, uneven terrain with ascents and descents occasionally requiring caution due to rocky or slippery surfaces. In Slovenia, these routes often lead to stunning viewpoints overlooking scenic valleys. No technical mountaineering skills are required. Perfect for hikers with basic fitness looking to explore varied landscapes.

Weather

Varied weather conditions depend on altitude and season. From June to September we usually expect pleasant temperatures between 20–30°C in valleys, while higher elevations remain cooler, around 10–20°C. In early May and from late September onwards expect milder temperatures. In May, there can still be some snow around Vrsic Pass (the highest point of the trip). In that case, we will slightly adapt certain hikes. Late September can also surprise with early snowfall above 1,500m.

Afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August, so carrying rain gear is essential.

Always check the latest weather forecast before setting out, as the weather can change rapidly. Below is the weather forecast for Vrsic Pass (at 1,600 meters above sea level).

Good To Know

Breakfast: Is included in all accommodations.

Lunch and Dinner: Lunch options will be presented by your guide day by day. Both dinners will be at the accommodation (not included). Mountain hut cuisine is simple, typically featuring stews, pasta, sausages, and bread. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available, and hutkeepers will do their best to accommodate your preferences. However, if you have specific dietary needs, bringing some suitable food is recommended.

Snacks: Pack some trail snacks for emergencies. There is a grocery store in Kranjska Gora.

Accommodations: Both nights will be spent in a traditional Slovenian mountain hut. Room sizes vary, and while we always book the smallest available room, we cannot guarantee the exact room size. There’s no need to bring a sleeping bag, as sleeping sheets and pillows are provided. Towels are available for rent, and bathrooms are shared.

Payment: Both places accept credit card payments. However, we recommend bringing some extra cash. We suggest budgeting 50€ per person per day just in case. There are ATMs in Kranjska Gora.

Water: Water in Slovenia is abundant and of excellent quality. You can refill your water bottles at your accommodations or any place with a reliable water source. However, we do not recommend refilling bottles from open streams.

Charging: We use 220V electrical sockets like this.

Cell Reception & Wi-Fi: Limited in the mountains and remote valleys.
